Espag Window Handles

Espag handles are the most common replacement window handles for modern uPVC double glazed windows. They use a 7mm square spindle and are fixed with two bolts. The spindle engages with the window’s locking system (the espagnolette) to secure the window shut. Spindle lengths can range from 10mm up to 65mm depending on the window design.

Cockspur Window Handles

Common on older uPVC and aluminium windows, Cockspur handles use a nose that clamps onto a wedge on the window frame. They’re fixed with screws directly into the window sash and don’t use an internal locking mechanism.

Tilt and Turn Handles

Tilt and Turn handles are chunkier versions of espag handles. They also use a 7mm spindle but are built to handle the dual-action opening of inward-opening windows. Most common on European-style installations, they provide excellent ventilation and access.

Fork and Spade Handles

These handles use a blade, fork, or flat bar instead of a square spindle. Often found on timber or specialist locking windows, they can be tricky to replace — especially when internal locking parts vary by brand. If in doubt, get in touch for help identifying the design.

Hook Nose, Monkey Tail and Decorative Handles

Generally used on period properties, timber frames, or heritage uPVC windows. Monkey Tail and Hook Nose styles add a decorative flourish while still working with standard espag gearboxes. Always check the spindle and fixing positions before ordering.

Shutter and Blind Handles

Designed for flush-fit blinds and shutters, these low-profile handles avoid projection into the room. They’re usually bolt-fixed like an espag but are ideal where space is tight or when aesthetics are key.
